It’s a new year, which means there are new opportunities that await your business! But before you tackle the new year, it’s good to make sure that your business is in the right place, as it should be. It’s time for a little self-audit and a new marketing plan! To help get you started this is a list of things you should review – in our opinion – and think about before you jump into marketing and advertising this year.
Review your business profiles online
It’s good to do this more than once a year but check all the details on your business listings throughout the web to make sure you have the right information such as email, phone number, website, business hours, and so on. Also, make sure you have the right login information for all your business pages. Keep proper tabs on your social media pages and other important accounts. Keep your login information safe and secure and be sure to update it often, especially if you have a team member leave to keep your data secure.
Check your website for any updates that need to be made
Make sure all the content on your website accurately reflects your current business services and model. Also, remove any old products or discontinued services from your website and showcase all your current products and services with the newest first. Again, be sure to review contact information, check to make sure all your links internally and externally still work, as broken links are something that Google doesn’t like to see, and check that your email forms work properly by sending a test through each one.
All the places your business appears should show your logo
Whether it’s on your social media, your website, or on your business card, your business’ logo should be the same across all the marketing platforms you use. So, if there are any inconsistencies, it’s time to make some updates. Or if necessary, update your logo completely with a bit of a brand refresh to bring it into 2021 sparkling.
Make a new marketing and advertising campaign plan
Planning for the new year in advance is a time saver. However, if you’re reading this now, you might have missed the boat on that one — That’s ok! January is typically a slower time of year for many businesses, which makes this the perfect time — especially through our unfortunate lockdown — for you to create a kick-ass plan to get your advertising message, execution plan, and annual budget in tip-top shape. Think about the different promotions and campaigns you want to do this year and make a calendar or take detailed notes as to what the message for each will look like, what dates you’ll run the campaign, and what advertising or marketing tools you will use to get the message out to your customers or clients.
Make a social media content plan
Thinking of what to post on the fly can be tricky, which is why having a social media calendar will save you a LOT of time. Instead of racking your brain for a post idea the day of, save yourself some brainpower and do it in advance. You don’t need to have the entire year mapped out, but even just thinking of posts a month ahead will make a big difference. Then make it a monthly task to write out your social media posts on-going so you stay ahead of the curb.
Once you’ve made the necessary updates and created an advertising plan, you’re now ready to take on the new year!
